Recreation

Fish. Hunt. Ride. Bike. Hike. Ski. Snowshoe. Golf. Literally right out your back door. The recreational opportunities available at Fox Crossing Ranch are limited only by time and imagination.

For anglers, firstly there is the fishing on Lake Fork Creek as it flows through the ranch. This is classic high country fishing at its best – beaver dams, mountain meadow, solitude and wild browns and brookies up to fourteen inches. Five minutes down the road is the Arkansas River, one of the finest freestone fisheries in Colorado. Lake County’s central location means you are no further than two hours away from most major drainages in the state: the Colorado, Roaring Fork, Blue, South Platte, Gunnison, Rio Grande and Conejos.

For hunters, Fox Crossing ranch is located in Game Management Unit 48. Elk regularly migrate through the property, and is a popular calving ground throughout the spring and summer. In addition, deer, bear and cats are to be found. A private trail from the ranch accesses the Colorado Trail, gateway to tens of thousands of acres of prime hunting lands.

These same trails provide excellent opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers throughout the summer and fall.

Approximately one third of the property is sub-irrigated meadow, providing ideal summer pasture for your horses. The land surrounding Fox Crossing Ranch is perfect for riding and multi day backcountry horse packing expeditions. The barn and loafing sheds are able to accommodate up to fifteen horses, depending on the season.

If winter pursuits are more to your liking, you can cross country ski and snowshoe right from your door. The ski areas of Ski Cooper, Vail, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge and Powder Monarch are all within one to two hours of the ranch.
