The Improvements

Sometime back in the 1860s, a settler passed through where Fox Crossing Ranch now sits. Deciding he liked the view and location, he built a small log cabin. Over the years, outbuildings were added – an ice house and butcher’s room among others, and the cabin expanded.

Fast forward to 1999. The current owners love the warmth and charm of the original cabin, but it was in need of some TLC. They decided to build a new home around the shell of the original cabin. A new foundation was excavated and poured, new electric and plumbing installed, and a concrete floor with in-floor radiant heat added.

The result is a beautiful 1900 square foot, 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin with the amenities of today, but with all the warmth, charm and history of yesterday. The exterior log walls of the original cabin now form the interior walls of the living room, sunroom and master bedroom. A new kitchen with artist’s nook, bathroom and second bedroom / office were added. The home is located to maximize enjoyment of the tranquil views and passive solar in the wintertime.

While in residence, a state-of-the-art EPA approved wood fired boiler heats the in-floor radiant heat system, with propane back up for extended periods of absence. The original stone fireplace in the living room provides a cheery ambiance during the winter months. For outdoor living, the cabin boasts 1100 square feet of deck, positioned to take advantage of the views and winter sun.

There are several prime building sites for those wishing to build a larger home, and retain the cabin for guest quarters, or for use as a vacation rental or B&B, which the current zoning allows.

In addition to the historic outbuildings, there is a workshop, garage and a 900 square foot horse barn with three stalls and tack room. The loafing sheds and pasture can support up to fifteen horses.
